GRRL! musings…

Brittany has announced this is her last year as the Queen of Speed. She’s retiring from racing. Most athletes retire when they realize their best days are behind them. Brittany, however, has set, re-set, and re-set again the fastest speeds ever run by a human in 1,000 feet. Over and over Brittany keeps punching holes in the record books. Unfortunately the incredible string of record after record has not brought her the wins she’s become so accustomed to (the record speeds come in early qualifying or elimination rounds). But no one – NO ONE – can doubt who the fastest man or woman in the sport is. SHE keeps proving it over, and over, and over.

GRRL! SUMMARY:

  • BRITTANY FORCE just made NHRA history by becoming the fastest person ever in the sport, clocking 341.85 mph in her Top Fuel dragster. She didn’t just edge past the previous record of 341.68 mph – she obliterated it and claimed her place at the top of the speed charts where she belongs.
  • Her record-breaking run puts her in elite company in a sport that’s been pushing speed boundaries since the 1940s. From Art Arfons breaking 150 mph in 1956 to Big Daddy Don Garlits hitting 200 mph in 1965, FORCE now sits at the pinnacle of this progression, proving once again that when women get equal equipment and opportunity, records fall.
  • The achievement comes in Top Fuel competition, where cars now race over 1,000 feet instead of the traditional quarter mile after safety changes in 2008. FORCE’s record demonstrates that even with shortened distances implemented after tragic accidents, the relentless pursuit of speed continues – and she’s leading that charge.
