DYSTANY SPURLOCK Set to Make NASCAR History at Hickory Speedway

• DYSTANY SPURLOCK is scheduled to make her ARCA Menards Series debut on March 28 at Hickory Speedway in Hickory, North Carolina — a race that could write her name into the record books as the first Black woman to compete on NASCAR’s national circuit. She’s running with MBM Motorsports, owned by Carl Long, and carries sponsorship from Foxxtecca. The road here wasn’t paved — it was gravel, full of potholes, and nobody was handing her a map. She shared her story at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management’s annual Go Red Women’s Leadership Event in Purchase, New York, in front of more than 200 attendees.
• SPURLOCK grew up in a racing family outside Richmond, Virginia — go-karts at five, motorcycles with her parents, and eventually motorcycle drag racing before making the jump to stock cars. Women represent just 4% of racers, and being a Black woman in that already-thin slice meant she heard plenty of “no” before anyone said “yes.” She spent time living in her RV with her 120-pound dog, Drago, working hospitality jobs to keep the dream alive while promised sponsorships evaporated. She didn’t dress it up — she just kept showing up.
• What makes SPURLOCK’s story stick is that she refuses to be anyone’s one-dimensional symbol. She describes herself as a “girly tomboy” — someone who played tackle football in high school and also loves fashion, hair, and a good manicure. Since she can’t wear jewelry on the track, she dots her face with star appliqués on race day, showing up in full DYSTANY SPURLOCK fashion even under the helmet. She told the audience plainly: “This is what I was created to do. This is my passion.” Hard to argue with that kind of clarity.
