GRRL! SUMMARY:
- LONI UNSER delivered a statement weekend at Virginia International Raceway, claiming back-to-back podium finishes in the Cayman Pro/Am class and proving she’s got the pace to win. The Kellymoss driver bounced back from a challenging qualifying session where she was caught up in someone else’s incident, then systematically worked her way forward in both races with smart racecraft and impressive consistency.
- In Saturday’s opener, UNSER executed a brilliant opportunistic pass on ERIKA HOFFMANN at the Roller Coaster section to claim third, then spent the closing laps hunting down ANNA CECCHI for second place. She got within a quarter-second but couldn’t quite complete the move, finishing third just one second behind overall winner Jens Hantson – solid points but you could sense she wanted more.
- Sunday’s race two was where UNSER really showed her speed, making an excellent start to clear traffic and immediately pressure championship leader Hantson. She methodically closed a two-second gap through superior pace, getting within striking distance before a late caution bunched the field. In the final sprint to the flag, UNSER was right on Hantson’s gearbox, forcing him to defend and finishing just half a second behind – her career-best second place and tantalizingly close to that breakthrough win we’re all waiting for.
UPCOMING:
- Porsche Sprint Challenge North America at Road America – August 9-10
