Michaela Cerruti
Formula racing // Italian
It was 2008 and Romeo Ferraris was ready to go back to racing. That day we were on track, and I sat behind the wheel of my first racing car, a Renault Clio that had raced in that year’s monobrand championship.
Michela Cerruti is a pioneering Italian racer who broke barriers as the first woman to win across Tourism, GT, and Formula categories before transitioning to team leadership as Principal at Romeo Ferraris.
EARLY YEARS
Born in Rome on February 18, 1987, Michela grew up influenced by her father Aldo Cerruti, himself a successful racing driver. Unlike many professional racers, she came to motorsport relatively late, first discovering her passion at age 18 during a safe driving course. Before racing captured her heart, she excelled in competitive skiing and prioritized her education, pursuing a psychology degree at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan. This academic foundation gave her a maturity and cultural depth she considers uncommon among her racing peers.
EARLY SUCCESS
Cerruti’s official racing career began in 2008, following in her father’s footsteps but charting her own course. Early in her career, she secured a third-place finish in the Italian Touring Endurance Championship, demonstrating her natural talent despite her late start. The turning point came in 2014 during a full season with Super Nova in the Auto GP series, where she drove modified Lola F3000 cars. Despite missing two rounds, she delivered an impressive performance with a win at Imola and finished in the top six of the championship. That same year, Cerruti joined the Trulli Formula E team for the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship, becoming one of the few women to compete in this groundbreaking electric racing series.

- 2022: Appointed Team Principal at Romeo Ferraris, transitioning from racing to leadership.
REPUTATION
Cerruti has established herself as a versatile and determined competitor across multiple racing disciplines. Her ability to adapt to different vehicles and racing formats—from touring cars to single-seaters and electric racing—showcases her exceptional skill and racing instinct. In the Superstars Series, she gained particular recognition when she topped practice sessions at the legendary Monza circuit. Beyond her driving abilities, Michela is respected for breaking gender barriers in motorsport, competing and succeeding in series traditionally dominated by men. Her transition to team leadership further cements her reputation as a multifaceted professional committed to advancing motorsport both on and off the track.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
While Cerruti concluded her competitive driving career in 2017, she continues to make an impact in motorsport through her leadership role as Team Principal at Romeo Ferraris. Her future focus appears centered on developing the team’s strategic direction and nurturing new talent in the sport. Though she has no plans to return to competitive driving, her position of influence allows her to continue breaking barriers for women in motorsport from the management side, potentially inspiring the next generation of female racers and leaders.
