FULL BIO: Rachel Robertson
Rachel Robertson burst onto the motorsports scene with an unconventional trajectory that took her from indoor rental karts to a Radical factory drive in just two years. This Scottish teenager from Edinburgh is making waves in the Radical Cup UK while simultaneously pursuing motorsport engineering studies.
EARLY YEARS
Born around 2007-2008 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Rachel grew up in a household where motorsport wasn’t exactly the family business. Her father Colin Robertson had no racing background, but he was smart enough to recognize his daughter’s obsession with anything on wheels when she started asking about karting at age eight. From scooters and bikes at age three to driving games throughout her childhood, Rachel’s passion for vehicular control was evident early on. “As long as I can remember, I would always enjoy being in control of anything with wheels,” she recalls. Colin took his determined daughter to Race Land kart facility near Tranent, launching what would become a remarkably rapid ascent in motorsport. She attended Trinity Academy in Edinburgh while nurturing her racing ambitions—dreams of Formula 1 that she’d harbored since primary school.
OTHER INTERESTS
Rachel’s interests extend beyond the cockpit into the mechanical realm, where she’s proven herself just as capable with tools as with a steering wheel. During work experience at Doig Motor Engineers, a local garage, she impressed the mechanics with her natural aptitude for automotive work. This hands-on technical knowledge complements her current studies in motorsport engineering, creating a well-rounded foundation for her racing career. Her early love of driving games also helped develop her understanding of vehicle dynamics and racing lines before she ever got behind the wheel of a real race car.
EARLY SUCCESS
Rachel’s path to success was anything but linear. After her initial karting experience at Race Land, the facility’s closure forced an unwelcome break from the sport. “Race Land kart track shut down and we didn’t find anywhere else,” she explains. Rather than give up, she pivoted to indoor rental karts around age 15—not exactly the traditional route to professional racing. But Rachel’s talent couldn’t be contained by rental equipment limitations. Her rapid skill development caught attention, and within two years of that indoor karting restart, she found herself behind the wheel of a Radical SR3 XXR. In October 2024, she beat 49 other young drivers to win a competitive scholarship with Radical Racing and Wera Tools, securing her spot on the 2025 Radical Racing Rebels team.
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
- 2024: Won competitive scholarship with Radical Racing and Wera Tools, beating 49 other young drivers
- 2025: Selected for Radical Racing Rebels team to compete in Radical Cup UK
- 2025: Achieved podium finish in second endurance race at Brands Hatch
- 2025: Secured another podium finish at Silverstone in Radical Cup UK
- 2025: Currently competing in both Radical Cup UK and British Kart Championships
INSPIRATIONS
Rachel draws inspiration from Scotland’s motorsport heritage, particularly fellow Scottish racer Susie Wolff’s journey from karting through Formula 3 to team management roles. Her childhood F1 dreams remain a driving force, and she’s had the opportunity to meet notable figures in the racing community, including events attended by Max Verstappen and Red Bull Honda Europe representatives. But perhaps her greatest inspiration comes from the pure joy of racing itself: “When you put on your helmet, there are no other thoughts… It’s just me driving and I just find it really freeing.”
REPUTATION
Industry professionals have taken notice of Rachel’s remarkable trajectory and multi-faceted skills. Media coverage consistently highlights her rapid ascent despite lacking a traditional motorsport background, while mechanics at her work experience garage were genuinely impressed by her technical abilities. She’s gained recognition as a rising star with the mental fortitude essential for racing success, demonstrating focus and determination that belies her age. Her story resonates particularly strongly in Scotland, where she’s viewed as a promising successor to the country’s notable female racing representatives. No controversies or disputes have marked her early career—just consistent praise for her talent, work ethic, and professional approach to the sport.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
Rachel’s 2025 racing calendar includes continued competition in the Radical Cup UK with scheduled races at Donington Park (September 19-21), PF International (October 10-11), and the Ultimate Karting Championship on October 12. She plans to maintain her dual focus on racing and education, completing her motorsport engineering studies while keeping her driving career on track. Post-graduation, she’s expressed interest in leveraging her technical knowledge within racing teams, whether from the cockpit or in engineering roles. Her approach is refreshingly pragmatic—she intends to continue racing and maintain driving positions while keeping her options open for technical roles within the motorsport industry, ensuring multiple pathways to stay involved in the sport she loves.
