WEC racing // Belgian
Sarah Bovy is a trailblazing Belgian motorsport athlete who made history as the first woman to claim a pole position in the World Endurance Championship.
EARLY YEARS
Born on May 15, 1989, in Liège, Belgium, Bovy was introduced to racing through her father, who competed before she was born. She started her racing career relatively late at age 12, winning the Belgian kart champion title that same year and laying the foundation for her future in motorsports.
EARLY SUCCESS
At just 18 years old, Sarah became the youngest driver ever to participate in the 24 Hours of Spa with the Gillet Vertigo in 2007. Following two years in karting, she transitioned to Formula Renault 1.6 Belgium as a Formula Renault Academy driver under the guidance of former Formula One driver Thierry Boutsen. After taking a break due to funding issues in 2014, she returned to racing in 2015 and secured a podium in her home race at Spa-Francorchamps in the Renault Sport Trophy.
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

REPUTATION
As a key driver for the Iron Dames team, Bovy has contributed significantly to the team’s success, securing podiums in the final three races of the 2022 WEC season and helping the team finish third in the championship. Her historic pole positions at Monza and Bahrain made her the first woman to achieve this feat in the World Endurance Championship. Recently promoted to a Silver classification by the FIA, Sarah continues to be respected not just for breaking gender barriers in motorsport but for her genuine skill and competitive edge on the track.
FUTURE GOALS/PLANS
For 2025, Sarah will team up with Celia Martin and Michelle Gatting in the European Le Mans Series driving the #85 Porsche 911 GT3 R. The Iron Dames’ partnership with Porsche Motorsport aims to create a pathway for young female drivers from karting to professional racing. Bovy has expressed her long-term aspiration to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the most prestigious races in endurance motorsport, while continuing to represent Belgium internationally and inspire more women to participate in motorsports.
