Kaitlin's bio:

Kaitlin Tucci is a motorsports journalist and marketing professional who turned a Netflix obsession into a full-fledged career covering Formula 1, IndyCar, IMSA, and beyond—proving that sometimes the best professional pivots start with a good binge-watch.

EARLY YEARS

Born on August 14, 1998, Kaitlin was raised in Las Vegas, Nevada—a city that would later become home to one of Formula 1’s most glamorous (and chaotic) race weekends. While her hometown was known for glitz and gambles, Tucci was setting her sights on something decidedly more academic. She enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she graduated in 2020 with dual degrees in Business/Marketing and Political Science. It was during her time at MIT, in 2016, that she first discovered Formula 1, though the full-throttle love affair wouldn’t ignite until a few years later.

OTHER INTERESTS

When she’s not chasing deadline or dissecting the latest paddock drama, Kaitlin lives in New York City with her dog Willow—affectionately described as a “giant chihuahua,” which sounds both adorable and slightly terrifying. She’s been a New Yorker for the past five years, trading the neon lights of Vegas for the bright lights of the city that never sleeps. Her passions extend beyond motorsports: she’s deeply invested in ensuring fans have unforgettable experiences both on and off the track, a mission that’s become central to her professional identity.

EARLY SUCCESS

Tucci’s entrée into the motorsports world wasn’t through the traditional journalism route—it was through marketing and startups. During her time at MIT, she completed a marketing internship at DigitalOcean from May to August 2019, where she conducted market research, worked on inbound marketing strategy, lead generation, and paid advertising. But the real breakthrough came after graduation when she joined FanAmp, a motorsports startup laser-focused on enhancing the fan experience. Starting as a B2B Marketing Specialist and working her way up through roles including Demand Generation Specialist and Demand Generation Marketing Manager, Tucci eventually landed the role of Head of Marketing at FanAmp. In this position, she didn’t just write about racing—she built communities around it, creating content and strategies that connected fans to the sport in meaningful ways.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 2020: Graduated from MIT with dual degrees in Business/Marketing and Political Science; fell completely in love with Formula 1 after discovering Drive to Survive[1][2].
  • 2023: Attended and documented the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas, sharing a detailed travel diary that became a go-to resource for fans planning their own race weekends[3].
  • 2023: Covered the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix, providing both on-track race analysis and off-track guides to navigating the Las Vegas Strip during race week[4].
  • 2025: Joined Sports Illustrated’s On SI platform as a motorsports journalist, contributing coverage across Formula 1, IndyCar, and IMSA while continuing to champion grassroots fan ventures and accessibility in American motorsports[5].

INSPIRATIONS

Like millions of others, Tucci credits Netflix’s Drive to Survive with transforming her from a casual observer into a full-blown motorsports devotee in 2020. The docuseries didn’t just introduce her to the personalities and drama of Formula 1—it gave her a framework for understanding how storytelling could make racing accessible and exciting to new audiences. That revelation has shaped her entire career approach: making motorsports welcoming, understandable, and thrilling for everyone, whether they’ve been fans for decades or just stumbled onto the sport last weekend.

REPUTATION

Tucci has built a reputation as someone who genuinely cares about the fan experience—not just as a marketing buzzword, but as a guiding principle. Her work at FanAmp and later at Sports Illustrated reflects a consistent commitment to helping fans navigate the often-intimidating world of attending live races, understanding the sport’s complexities, and finding their community within motorsports culture. She’s known for her detailed travel guides, race diaries, and thoughtful analysis of how Formula 1 is (or isn’t) meeting the needs of its rapidly growing American fanbase. Her writing is grounded in both her marketing expertise and her own relatively recent journey into the sport, giving her a unique ability to speak to both longtime enthusiasts and curious newcomers. Colleagues and readers appreciate her straightforward, accessible style and her willingness to tackle the business and cultural side of racing alongside the on-track action.

FUTURE GOALS/PLANS

As of 2025, Tucci continues to expand her coverage across multiple racing series at Sports Illustrated, bringing her signature fan-first perspective to stories about Formula 1, IndyCar, IMSA, and the evolving landscape of American motorsports. Her focus remains on elevating grassroots fan initiatives, exploring how racing organizations can better serve their audiences, and documenting the behind-the-scenes partnerships and innovations that shape the sport’s future. With her unique combination of marketing savvy and journalistic curiosity, she’s positioned to be a leading voice in the ongoing conversation about how motorsports can grow authentically and inclusively in the United States.
