GRRL! SUMMARY:
- JAMIE CHADWICK and her Genesis Magma Racing teammates were running in podium position at Spa when a poorly-timed pit entry during a full course yellow destroyed their race. The team crossed the line third but got slapped with a three-minute stop-go penalty that sent them tumbling to 19th – a brutal end to what looked like a breakthrough ELMS result.
- In LMGT3, we saw some promising wheel-to-wheel action from the women drivers, with CELIA MARTIN putting the Iron Dames Porsche into the lead during her stint before the team ultimately had to settle for fourth. MICHELLE GATTING was forced to pit with less than two minutes remaining, costing the Iron Dames a potential podium after SARAH BOVY and MARTIN had kept them in contention throughout the four-hour endurance test.
- The race highlighted both the progress women are making in top-level endurance racing and the razor-thin margins that can make or break a race. While CHADWICK’s penalty was heartbreaking, her pace in the Genesis showed she belongs at this level – we just need the racing gods to cooperate next time around.
